This is my new pet peeve! I just opened a new box of Kleenex because I needed a tissue. I didn’t want three tissues – just one single tissue. But could I pull up just one single tissue? No. You can not open a new box of Kleenex and pull up one tissue with the first pull. Three sheets are forced on us, like it or not. Why? Apparently, the technology does not exist. But didn’t some guy walk on the moon? Can’t you store 40,000 songs on a small metal stick? We could probably clone a human being if we wanted to. So what’s up with Kleenex? I think if they folded them right, you could get one to pop up with the first pull. Seriously, it can’t be that hard.
Yep. Something has changed in the last year. I just opened two boxes for my tissue dispensers and wasted four tissues each box. Shame on Kimberly Clark for ruining a good product😡
I AGREE!!! Something has changed. They are doing something different. I’ve called Kleenex SEVERAL times to complain. They deny ever hearing of this problem before, and deny doing anything different.
I too am very unhappy with the new Kleenex boxes. When I try to pull out one tissue, I get 3-5 tissues. What a mess. they were never this way before. I’m very irritated with Kleenex and will probably switch to something else.
There was a small cloud of dust in the sunlight as I pulled a “kleenex” from its box. Do I need more dust when I’m already sneezing? I think not. In my dresser I have a small stack of REAL cloth handkerchiefs! Yes, they do still exist, but to find them I had to raid the antique booths and second hand shops. Goodbye kleenex! (I like linen table napkins better than paper ones too.) Thanks for sharing your ideas.
Puffs are cheaper than Kleenex. But Puffs needs a tissue dispenser! Kleenex dispensers do not work!
Kleenex has definitely declined. They do not pop up as they advertise.
Switch to Puffs and save the money and aggravation.
Only 1 box of 4 do I have Jenny’s problem. 2 of mine are not full. Empty in one day? Don’t think so. Every pack is like that.
It is absolutely ridiculous that you CAN NOT pull out one tissue from a cube box. Sometimes 5 come out together. What happened to the kleenex company…it was not like this years ago. FIX IT! otherwise, your customers will choose another brand and yes there are others on the market. So simple and yet you risk losing customers.
Hire some engineers that have some knowledge of how it works to pull a tissue out of a cube box.
Its a two fold problem.
One they want you to use MORE tissues.
Two they dont care about your concerns.
My peeve with Kleenex, and many more tissues, is that, halfway down the box, they fail to pop up, forcing you to dig down and get them. That is why I use Puffs. I don’t understand why all tissues are not dispensed this way. Attempting to defy gravity does not work. Those tissues will only pop up as long as the tissue is shorter than their distance to the top of the box.
Ten years and the problem has not been solved. I’m switching to the rectangular box. The cubes are cute but I hate pulling 3 tissue out when I only need one.
The problem isn’t that the tissues are inter-folded one to another. The problem is the cube-shaped box. Buy the flat elongated box instead. To fit the rectangular tissues into the square cube, they have to fold them in half. Or buy one box of the rectangular kind take the entire stack of tissues out of the cube, flatten them out, and carefully put them in the rectangular box. In the 50’s the rectangular boxes had only a narrow slit in the top of the box—no plastic—and people complained that they couldn’t pull out a stack of several tissues at a time. So, the corps made the rectangular boxes with an oval in the middle of the slot and added the plastic. This actually worked pretty well until the boutique boxes were introduced. If they made the tissues square, It might work better, but then you wouldn’t be able to blow ad much snot i to them. Just use the rectangular boxes! Yes, they take up more up more room, but… surprise! THEY WORK!
I buy the big boxes and they do it too. The damn things are jammed in there with no leading edge to grab.
They give you a 3” slot to grab the flat surface of a tissue from the center, not the edge. It’d ridiculous and I don’t know why they don’t fix it.
I grew up with these cube boxes only in the last years did they come up with this stupid concept….it worked just fine in the old days.
If it isn’t broke don’t fix it….these bright ideas are such a waist of time and money and these people should be fired.
I just noticed my square box of Puffs ultra soft has only55 tissues! WTH? Last month there were 75. And they still don’t come out one at a time! I like the idea of the CEOs of the companies being challenged to lift out the first tissue LOL!
I recently purchased an amazing tissue deal. 200 2-ply tissues from the Dollar Tree store. What a mistake. From each tissue pulled it seemed to snow white dust flakes. This went on tissue after tissue. It’s called “Big Value” tissue. No value here. I tossed the rest.
Just opened a new kleenex cube. The tussues were packaged sideways! How does this happen? Getting it started was as difficult as always, lost a couple, but now they seem to pop up better than the the usual packaging.
I agree with all of these issues. . .but have another (self-imposed) issue as well. Found an awesome shabby chic, metal, cube candle holder that I just knew would be perfect for holding Kleenex tissues in the cube for my girly-girl bathroom. The box is about a half inch too big (of course) so I took all the Kleenex out of the cardboard box. But now the Kleenex do not neatly ‘pop-up’ because they are now too floofee and don’t have enough structure too hold them snug in the new ‘cube’. Any suggestions?
Buffy, question. Is your holder open at the top? If this is the case, try making a lid with a circle cutout to fit snuggly into the cube. Of course you could use the same technique on the bottom of the cube. I use the card stock from cereal boxes. They take paint well and you can girlie it up as much as needed, and the lid can be reused.
I’ve been wondering about this for a while now, so I decided to do a Google search to see if others have experienced it, or if I was delusional and/or just have had a VERY bad run of tissue boxes. Seems not! As others have mentioned, it’s a phenomenon seen in store brand tissues, as well (and also in Clorox wipes. So hard to get the first one started!). Plus, it’s not just that you have to pull out three or four to get the box started, they also often tear as you pull them out. So, often I can’t even use those first few. Arrggh! Maybe I’ll try Puffs brand, as Kemp mentions.
I could not agree more, Jenny! In addition, the box lifts up when trying to pull a tissue out. I have discontinued buying the cubes. As a matter of fact, and you will be interested in this, Jeff, I have switched to the rectangular box of a brand called PUFFS (124 2-ply tissues). They are not interleaved, and the opening is quite wide allowing you to pull out one at a time. Love it!
Thank you for allowing me to comment, Jenny.
Why would tissue manufacturers worry about wasting paper and trees when they do everything to make a huge profit paying off politicians to let them clear cut forest and block environmental laws?
I’m also frustrated by the new box tissue issue. Maybe we could start a class action hehehe
Well, it’s now 2016 and no improvement in Kleenex pop-ups..
In fact, at about 1/2 to 3/4 finished, no pop-ups at all….so must reach into box and try to grab a single one instead of a handful, and establish new pop-up procession. Anybody listening?
I have actually thought about this as well. Why couldn’t the manufacturers add some type of cheap plastic spring beneath the bottom of the tissues, maybe similar to those plastic Slinkies that are sold, that would keep all the tissues at the top of the box as each tissue is pulled out. When you have to reach down into a tall box of Kleenex, you end up ripping the plastic that grips the tissues which then messes up the whole system that holds the tissues. Very frustrating.
Steve, That’s a great idea. Kimberly Clark may well patent it, making more $ for them and nothing for you. But who said life was fair…
Oh my Gosh- Yes!! It is now 2019 and I still do not know of any solution for the 1/2 box where you have to reach down into the box with your two fingers and try to grab a tissue. SO FRUSTRATING!!!
Does anyone know of a fix for this yet?

Omg RIGHT!? I just googled this because I’ve been using a lot of tissues lately (sick and a breakup) and noticed what a pain in the ass it is to pull out the first one!! It’s not just kleenex brand either it’s the store brands as well! Wtf! Marketing ploy for sure..
I’d like to find a brand that doesn’t pop up at all. With the old brands, you reached into the box and pulled up one at a time. They weren’t folded one into the other which causes one to pull up the next one. Isn’t that the way it was? If anyone knows of a brand that comes in the old way, would you let me know? Thanks
preach on sista!!! 🙂 I feel the same way about clorox wipes!!
sue
First it was toilet paper now it is Kleenix what next don’t tell me paper towels right ?
Detective Jenny at work once again and busted yet another mystery…lol… 🙂
I have to agree with Bruce. They pack the box too full so more than enough is pulled out. I think the machine is set to over fill the box and wouldn’t you know it less toilet paper and too much tissue paper. What ripoffs!…
Funny thing about this is that the Corporates that rip us off are only ripping themselves off as well…
Ugh I was just complaining about this!!
I would like to see the president of the Kleenex Corporation demonstrate opening one of their boxes and only pull out only ONE tissue!
It’s a corporate trick to get us to use more. I swear there are only like 15 kleenex in each one of those small square boxes these days. Back when I was young, grumble grumble grumble…..
I know, right? Grr…. I’ve also noticed that the Kleenex boxes are smaller than they were just last month. It’s a Kimberly-Clark conspiracy, I tell ya. 😀
