The hummingbirds in my backyard are now in charge and we work for them. We’re going through five pounds of sugar every week! We have seven feeders all around the yard but the one on the yellow hook is their favorite. The sugar water in that one disappears by the end of every day and we have to make more. I’m a prisoner. I want to go to Vegas for the weekend… but I can’t. Who’s gonna feed the birds? I don’t want them to leave. But I want my freedom. I shot this video yesterday and there are four instances where one bird lands on another one’s back and literally pulls him off the feeder. It turns out that hummingbirds are always looking over their shoulder. Maybe they got that from my squirrel.
After seeing a red throat hummingbird on your FB page I was amazed at their color and beauty. I finally saw one for the first time around our feeder yesterday. This one was a little larger than most. There were actually 2 hummingbirds there at the same time. I watched your hummingbird video again to try and see the different colors and you know it is hard to study them close because they are so fast, but a joy to see. I wanted to see if you had a red throat hummingbird in your video because I love there color. Didn’t see one. I’ll have to watch it again and really keep my eye focused. I bet a red throat is there. I love the way they stop in mid air. Reminds me of a mini helicopter…lol… 🙂
Is there anyway you can bring a couple of the other feeders closer to the one that they love the most? If they are emptying one a day just keep two other feeders by that one. They will go to them and when you get back they will still be there. Beautiful video. It’s nice to see them at this age.

There’s another feeder about five feet away. Any closer and we’d have mid-air collisions.
Good grief! Let me know if you don’t have a drill and I’ll bring it. These guys obviously need more holes.
If you are who I think you are. I hope you had a nice trip here to the states 🙂
I love your comment…lol…so funny! You are hilarious, Liz 🙂
Aw Jenny, take time for yourself and get away for the weekend. Ruth’s right the hummingbirds will be okay. Just make sure all feeders are full before you leave that way they can feed from your other feeders and have plenty til you get back home. I love the video and your backyard. I like seeing photos of your yard and when you make video it is so beautiful, plus with the video we get to hear the sounds of nature along with the view. Your picket fence is the main attraction for me and maybe for the hummingbirds too 🙂
Oh and yeah that squirrel better watch his back. He’s so bad. Destroying your precious things like your fruit trees and I agree, maybe the hummingbirds have seen what happened to the squirrel with being scared out of his wits…lol…
Wow, awesome video!! I love your back yard.
Your hummers are so precious!Jenny go to Vegas! If you have more than one feeder they will flock to any one them when their favorite feeder is empty.Natural instincts will kick in. They will miss you but they will be fine. You can bet on that!lol.
